INHABITAT: MIT Developing Body Heat-Powered Electronics

"It’s a lot easier to change the batteries in a flashlight than to switch out the batteries in, say, a biomedical monitor. But eventually, such batteries might never have to be changed thanks to a new breed of heat-harvesting electronics developed by researchers at MIT..." CHECK OUT the FULL article at inhabitat.com

salty soaking my spaghetti necklace and finger paintings. Over four feet now and growing far from the floor; I am standing. You must realize that: i am standing. That my mind works wirelessly, independently from the umbilical cord connection. I am okay. I can breathe and change my own clothes and feed my mouth and my brain. I know what tastes bad or good for either. and you have to just trust that I will not poison myself. Poison no matter is still for me to learn. to not prick my finger on the spindle, to not eat the apple from this women whose much too good looking to be an old lady. I am capable. Able to do things that may cloudy your waters but that is merely a coincidence. and I need you, it is crucial that you realize this. The black goes against your white but it is not typical metaphors and color symbolism. Mother it is only the distinguishing of you from me.

Stormy Weather by AnnMargaret

My sky could start to crumble
but you move me like the wind.
You hail precipitation
for the drought I'm living in.

I was caught in a tornado
but you PUSHED me, now I'm flying,
and predicting any chance of me
getting soaked in self-denying.

So, though my eyes are cloudy
and the rain is beating heavy,
Your L O V E is thunder steady
and your umbrella's always ready.

Stormy Weather had caught me in the bind
but Never Mind
because it's clear...
You're my sun's Shine.

Catchy tune. Fresh Video...Make memories!

Flight 1753 by Dale Rappaneau

Voices. Sounds and chatter rumble. Jaws open and shut to the tune of the roaring engine. There is no one sitting next to me; no one to bump my arm at the tug of turbulence, or to commit themselves to a nonchalant conversation.

I rest my cheek against my hand and slump my shoulders. My eyes feel as if a weight is being laid upon them. I continue to write because it keeps the chatter out of my head. Ambient noise. White noise is what it’s called. It’s my writing tune.

I sit up and take notice to the couple behind me. Adorable, young and fresh. They sound to be in the first couple months of knowing each other. So many secrets. So many acid-washed skeletons. I hope they make it to the end of this race. The red tape. The man teaches her how to play Sudoku. I’ve never learned but he’s a good teacher. Pausing long enough to gauge a reaction and speaking soft to show affection.

My attention is pulled away at the sight of a city. A florescent spill of light on the brown underneath. There are bright veins that pulsate and move in a horrifying fashion. A monster. A consumer! Devourer! A cancer that feasts on all it touches. Mandibles stretch along the coast and deep into the bay. It’s the face of the end. I am staring into the dim glow of our own personal apocalypse. A slow death.

And yet I return to the chatter. People. Mask-less jesters trying to entertain themselves. I hear laughter. It’s followed by more anonymous dribble. Two men in front of me talk of Nebraska and weather. A head bob. A flick of the hand. The back arches and the eyes grow wide. Take it all in. Observe.

There is an itch on my neck, which is when I realize the length of my nails. This causes me to notice these words and this writing. Insanity brought sane. The uncontrollable now tame. Domesticated. Brought under the thumb. It doesn’t make sense. A median. A channel through which thought, emotion and logic can be materialized.

For what?

I believe the day I can answer that question is the day I am no longer a writer. I write for no one and nothing.
I write for myself.

Khalifa Tower: The Tower of Babel?

1  "And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.
2  And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.
3  And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for mortar.
4  And they said, Go to, let us build us a city, and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
5  And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.
6  And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
7  Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.
8  So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.
9  Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth. -Genesis 11:1-9
Immediately following the dawn of the new year, the Khalifa Tower (the tallest man-made structure ever built) officially opened in Dubai, United Arab Emirates in the main business district. The tower itself cost US$1.5 billion dollars to make and recreating downtown Dubai cost an extra US$20 billion. In 2007, Dubai was considered the economic capital of the world. Recently in 2010 however, the completion of the tower coincided with a global economic slump and overbuilding, calling for a bank bailout in order to maintain stability in global economic recovery. (CNN Money)

The attention surrounding Dubai and the Khalifa Tower made me think of the tower of Babel. Is money the universal language of the world? The world shows more response to possible economic collapse then it does to extreme poverty on the immediate basis for fear that we, ourselves, will also become impoverished. Even with the recent event in Haiti, it became apparent that the most recognized response to tragedy always generates money. Are we obsessed with climbing new heights? Does money really talk?

Question: What 's This Freemasonry/ Illuminati Stuff?

It seems awareness of the existence of secret societies in the world is more widespread, now, than ever. Talk of Masonry and Illuminati are circulating celebrity gossip blogs everywhere. But what are these societies anyway? What relevancy do they hold in popular culture and why should we even be concerned?

To begin:
"Freemasonry is the oldest and largest world wide fraternity dedicated to the Brotherhood of Man under the Fatherhood of a Supreme Being. Although of a religious nature, Freemasonry is not a religion. It urges its members, however, to be faithful and devoted to their own religious beliefs.
The organization of Freemasonry is based on a system of Grand Lodges, each sovereign within its own territory. There is no central authority governing all Grand Lodges. However, to be acknowledged by others, acceptable traditions, standards and practices must be maintained." (Grandlodge).
So, basically, Freemasonry is just the oldest fraternity. Freemasonry, in and of itself, is not a bad thing at all and is a collection of powerful men above the age of 21 with various religious backgrounds coming together in the good name of brotherhood, charity and progression. But much like any group, whether it be religious or political, it's the extremist sects that branch from the ideas of a group that warrant any concern.

This is where the Illuminati come in. The Illuminati are completely independent of Freemasonry, although many powerful Masons are believed to be Illuminati:
"As far as history can suggest, Illuminati groups from Europe were some of the more advanced thinkers of the time period, reflecting humanism philosophy emerging at the time. They were opposed to power exerted by churches and by the nobility. The organization, as a secret society, was illegal. During its early years, this secret society may have had as many as 10 branches in Europe and 2000 members drawn from the intellectuals in Europe. According to historical sources, the Illuminati fell apart by 1795.
This is when speculation and conspiracy theory steps in to lend a hand. Conspiracy theorists assert that the Illuminati still exists today and has extraordinary influence over governments. One thing considered “evidence” of existence is the presence of the eye on the pyramid of a one US dollar (USD) bill. And most conspiracy beliefs held about the Illuminati consider the order as largely influential on the Freemasons.
Some believe that key members in the early formation of the US government, like Thomas Jefferson, and Ben Franklin were members of the Illuminati, and that the group continues to influence world government. It is suggested that the Illuminati have taken an active role in most major events in history. Some theorists allege that certain Presidents and members of the British monarchy are Illuminati members.
The Illuminati has recently gained some popularity with the Dan Brown novel Angels and Demons. Brown is most recognizable as the author of The Da Vinci Code. He takes the Illuminati on as a subject of interest, suggesting that all major scientific thinkers from the Age of Reason onward have been secret Illuminati members.
Brown depicts a constant war between the Illuminati and the Roman Catholic Church, outlining the conflict between not only Atheism and Christianity but also specifically science and religion. His work, which many acknowledge advances conspiracy theories about the group, suggest the Illuminati is still in existence and in continued warfare with the Vatican. Brown also intimates that the Illuminati have infiltrated every powerful political organization, and is largely composed of the world’s scientific community.
Nonfiction works have made the same contention as Brown’s, that the Illuminati still exists today and is in constant battle with the Catholic Church. Some theorists believe that the Illuminati work toward establishing a New World Order and have influenced most world events in the 20th century. What can be verified is that there are several groups calling themselves Illuminati in the 20th century, based on the principles of the Bavarian and European groups. These include the German Ordo Illuminatorum, the Grand Lodge Rockefeller in the USA, and the Spanish Orden Illuminati" (Wise Geek).
Understand that the Illuminati is a group concerned with power and knowledge. Though it's believed that the Illuminati are no longer in existence, many think the opposite. Stars, like Jay-Z and Madonna, subtly and not-so-subtly allude to the group all the time. We being the second wave of the MTV generation are generally highly influenced by media and popular culture. The entertainment industry is the biggest reflection of a slowly corrupting culture. What do you think?
"Illuminati wants my mind soul and body? Secret society, tryna keep their eye on me"-Jay-Z

Swine Flu Season's Over According to Harvard Poll

Most Americans do not intend to get the swine flu vaccine, assume the pandemic is over and think the flu threat was overblown, according to a poll released Friday by the Harvard School of Public Health.

As of the end of January, only about a fifth of all Americans had had swine flu shots, according to that poll and data released separately by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Read the FULL article from the New York Times).

Inglorious Basterds: Jewish People Are Celebrating Eight Oscar Nominations

Before it was released, “Inglourious Basterds” generated an uncommon amount of buzz for its daring as a Jewish revenge fantasy. Now, nearly six months after it first played in theaters, Quentin Tarantino’s World War II counter-history film has earned eight Oscar nominations, a likely place in cinematic history, and a distinguished presence in the hearts and minds of moviegoing Jews that until recently, was solely inhabited by Steven Spielberg. Heidi Montag: A Monument to Plastic Surgery by AnnMargaret

Heidi Montag, 23,  has had ten plastic surgery procedures done (breast implants increased to DDDs, a brow lift, a nose job revision, lipo on her stomach and thighs and a butt augmentation, and other things, too) in one day. The reality star began her career on MTV, and told People Magazine that she never liked the way she looked on the show.

"I do love it and I appreciate it and I appreciate the science behind it," she told NY Daily News. "We [are] blessed to even have this surgery that we have. We're so advanced. If Cleopatra were alive now, I'm sure she'd have triple D's ... there's always been a struggle between pain and beauty. I feel like since the beginning of time."  (NY Daily News). Montag touches upon some truth in this statement, highlighting the power of the allure of the feminine facade. Now, with shows like Niptuck, the idea of creating perfection has become a fantastical but obtainable ideal.

The Homeless Blind Man by AnnMargaret

A sage of old age, disguised in aesthetics
that coupled his speech of drunken phonetics,
sat slumped in his corner on the most dismal of streets
and held out his cup to pedestrian feet.
A fortress constructed of blankets and trash
clashed
with the scent of elitists' cash
who were
diverging their faces
in their rush to no places
in most of their cases
with frowns as they passed.
The blind drunken sage clasped at his Spirit
at tenacious hostility
towards misfortuned appearance
and guzzled his way
to a sensation like fire
and wiped from his mouth the remnants of Whisky
as if
his inner most voice had began to perspire.
He started to shout:

"Hey, Good looking out!
Greedy like hell...
You think 'cause I'm blind, and I'm drunk and I smell
that I can't really tell
what you're looks are about?
I see that you see me,
You sad bunch of fucks...
and me and you, buddy...
we don't differ too much, TRUST!
I lived in a house
with a yard and a cat
and a pool and a wife
and the kids...
and all that!
My job laid me off
and they took it all back.
I'm the product of you
whose a product of them
and with things as they are
we're all just as good as condemned.
Material zombies,
with you're head in the clouds
who throw cash at their problems,
and their fears and their doubts.
Ingest all that judgment,
and humble your clout
and help a fellow... scared... piece of shit out."

And as quick as he stood
to preach to no good
he slunk back to crouching
and praying
for ears who heard
and understood.

Balance: Use the Ying Yang by AnnMargaret

Balance is one of the most crucial aspects of life; the masculine and the feminine, the positive and the negative, day and night, the good and the bad. Seeking balance in everything you do is the first stage to realizing that you reside within a sentient nation.

On a fundamental level, the human being can use the ying-yang as a reminder of the duality that exists within the self. Every person has characteristics of both the yin and the yang. Actively maintianing the balance in one self can begin as easily as making a conscious effort to embrace both your positive and negative emotions or giving thought to every action.

Once you have disciplined yourself to this mindset, the system of balance will be easily applicable to a grander scale. If the self is balanced, it will naturally want to seek balance with everything that surrounds it. Much like the balance of duality found within the self, so exists this same duality in nature. The individual who incessantly has great fortune bestowed on him or her, should be aware of those who have experienced tremendous losses. Those who have witnessed a series of unfortunate events, should continue to look for those who serve as reminders of life's inevitable pay-offs. Use the Ying Yang to remember to get balanced!

London Is Beautiful At Night by Dale James Rappaneau

Static shock.
You ever feel lightening?
You ever feel it course its way through your body?
Not just affecting your physical form,
But hitting you in the soul.
Hitting you in your heart.
Hitting you where you want it.
Because that’s what I’m about to do.
I’m about to conjure up a thunder storm in this place,
Because I shook a city once.
I tore it down and rebuilt in my likeness.
In the form that I wanted and needed.
All of the buildings reflected my personality,
And all of the streets carried the passion that runs through my veins.
And the people?
The people were no one and nothing.
They meant nothing to me.
They still mean nothing to me.
Because I was that city,
And I still am.
I’m the creator.
I’m the destroyer.
I’m the architect of your dreams.
I can make it all come true,
But I can make it fade away.
Fade away like that dream you had last night.
You were cuddled up with you ultimate sexual fantasy.
You were caught in the heat of moment.
Your nails digging in.
Your breathe getting hot.
And you felt it.
That urge.
That ache that your body gives you.
And as you were acting upon that primal ecstatic need,
And your hands could literally feel the skin rubbing up against you,
You woke up.
And it left you with a haze of confusion;
Confusion you had never felt before,
And it was enough to make you question your reality.
Question everything you own.
Question everything you do.
Question everyone you know.
Question everything you are.
And you began to search for an answer.
An answer that had no question.
But you kept on asking.
You kept asking “Why?”
You kept asking where it went.
You kept asking what it meant.
That dream.
That city.
That person.
But go ahead and sigh now.
Sigh a sigh of relief and let it all go away.
Let your breathe escape you.
Let it run free from your lungs and gallivant all over the world.
Because I’m here,
And I still have so much more to say.

Astrology: The Science of Personalities by AnnMargaret

Have you ever seen a star
that shined like the sun in Leo?
Ground you to compassion,
like the Virgin did for the Holy Trio?
An infectious type of enigma,
radiating Cancer like Chemo
with a presence so intense,
undresses stress,
under the Scorpion influences of Pluto.
They mite test the best of you,
but bless the Bull,
it's respectable,
like the Taurus, giving you kudos.
They follow you like fashion,
a Sagitarrian passion,
cause it moves where ever the truth goes.
Natural fluidity,
practicing the political polygamy
that keeps Aquarians cool, yo.
They've been changing earth,
since birth,
with a Capricornian view.
So,
they're
noble in their conviction
to fight for benediction
like a true Arian hero.
Encompassing all spirituality,
with the mysterious Piscean reality,
or dissecting various dichotomies
with a curious Geminian propriety.
In truth,
you're just in love
with their balanced sense of LIBRAN compliancy.
Astrology, symbolically,
investigates the science of the spirit.
God reflected our personalities
from the celestial tapestry,
the Sun
and all of the planets near it.
Every sign is needed;
an essential mix personalities
making sure that everything is completed.

Madonna Builds Eco-Friendly School in Malawi

Madonna started a school! The Raising Malawi Academy for Girls consists of 46 hectares and will have a library and administration building, dining hall, gymnasium, wellness center, sports field, 30 classrooms, 12 dormitories and 18 staff houses. The design was centered around optimizing natural day lighting and ventilation to minimize energy use and take advantage of the natural site conditions. Mostly constructed out of locally sourced Hydraform bricks, which are made from on-site soil, the builders can avoid using “burned bricks which have been largely responsible for wide spread deforestation in Malawi.” Check out the full article about the school and more pictures here at inhabitat.com.

Invention: The Mother of Necessity by AnnMargaret

Thorstein Veblen, Norwegian-American sociologist, economist and leader of the Efficiency Movement (famous for his Theory of the Leisure Class) said, "Invention is the mother of necessity." Reversing the first and last words of the original maxim, Veblen proposes an interesting argument for the reproductive nature of the relationship between invention and necessity.

Today, a friend told me their i-pod made them feel like they NEEDED music on their daily commute. While music can be an enjoyable way to pass the time, it is not necessary in order for a person to do so. This pushed me to think about why so many people I see on the Boston T or the busy city sidewalk share a need to be so plugged in. It wasn't until I passed an advertisement on the street for cell phones that I realized inventions bare necessity through the birth canal of marketing.  When the media attempts to prove a need for a given product or invention, it simultaneously plays on the average individual's inclination to lean on group think, blind following, and impulsive consumerism for industrial capital gain. In today's world, often times it is the case that the sentiments that drive us to define what we feel are necessities are constructed. Try not to confuse NEED for WANT. Things that are necessary need not be defined and artificial intelligence desires to grow more artificially intelligent.

When Thomas Edison invented the light bulb, he bore the light that exposed a vision for an illuminated world. A world that would sooner rather than later be on the brink of going blind, due to eye-for-eye mentalities and its captivation with staring at and reproducing artificial light.

Dying Nation Realization by Cristina Bocchini

As I methodically challenge your process of thought
I render you speechless
your lack of conscience is caught
see what I've brought
is lyrical blasphemy to what founding fathers taught
as corruption destruction leaves mothers distraught
I am
the government chip in your brain
injecting
bias-wrapped scillicon in your veins
untamed
a virus trying to explain
the truth, from which you refrain
of an age when tyrants & bigots will rein
insane
stained lips
a child of Jesus
preaching the scripts
to disenfranchised masses running on microchips
white girl with hips
Puerto Rican with lips
that spit truth through direction
like you I lack perfection
with you I'm tryna make a connection
to see that this infection that leaves children home with neglection needs correction
to see that Mother Earth is in need of some reflection
my words infest your thoughts without any detection
& change your ideals with instant deflection
and as i direct your attention
to what time the clock is on
I remind you that every second that's added on
there's a war out there that's already begun
the age of reason has already been done
so where the fuck will you be when half the battle is won??

A Moment In Time by AnnMargaret

We've been taught that time is linear. Since we were young, we've been conditioned to incessantly fret about the future because we're constantly reminded of our end point. Many ancient civilizations, such as the Incas, Mayan, Greek, and Babylonian civilizations, had a different understanding of time all together. What if time were cyclical? What if all living beings are harboring a piece of energy that has existed since the conception of time and even beyond?

If this is the case, then the power of NOW becomes that much more important. Our daily actions wind about a universal cycle of consciousness. The struggle that all sentient beings face between triumph and failure has always been in existence and always will be in existence. Living in the moment every day of your life, trying to balance your own well-being with those around you, living to your maximum potential everyday (AS IF it were your last)--these are the things that allow us to escape the captivity of the watch.

Life Care by Bianca Maxwell

I Die Every Day by Josiah Fowler

Imagine
dieing every single day of your life
Either to your own hand, or your decisions…
I die every day
Atomic collisions, catastrophic incisions, diabolic mixture of fusion and fission, confusin those listening
Digging holes in my brain, hiding finite truth
Wine tonight suits
Evening’s attire
Breathe in fire, and out comes water
Hotter than its matter can hold as liquid
An ambitious mind can accomplish much
A fissure in time can restart it all to dust
Where I play Adam and highly suggest He not create Eve
As it encourages evil n greed to appease what I die for every day-
Selfish desire, happiness without values, wisdom n no morals, lust; envy, Lord send me
An imaginary cloak to only be seen n remembered as dieing
No off days, no sick days, no vaca
I die ritually every day!
Stupidity houses stubbornness, shelters loneliness, what kind of home is this? The kind Homer wished would some how exist cause the intellectuals know the truth
Entertainers too.
Their knowledge of the idea of wisdom is what makes them fight so hard to take over power
Insinuates there is a current Ruler
Hidden ever since your class required you to bring a ruler
The Church-
You cannot fool her
Though her children are weak alone
Seek to clone, their thoughts and show them where their desire wants to go
Brain malfunctioned, too many drinks at your work place function and it’s only a luncheon
I die every day
To disease, to vengeance, to a head list,
Old bread kissed dead fish
How now will the hungry be fed?
Anxiety blamed by piety, forced dichotomy to exist in sanity
And you wonder who stole it?
Unhand Her, She is your only true means
Instead emerge your thoughts into why you’re so anxious
Most of the time we don’t understand and claim it’s for a reason unknown to one’s own self
If you don’t know where it came from it didn’t come from you and health science only attempts to nail the truth
Just like they nailed the Truth, to be crucified
Though it’s resurrected and is still alive.
The unknown factor is a hacker, implanting vices like mice to scatter through your mainframe
This time leavin no trace and the window of time erased
So you are totally lost
In life AND in regards to the situation
A lost human puts their trust in a stranger for directions
A stranger waiting to be seeked for… truth
Knows it, but spews lies, dictates minds
And uses invisible string so we can’t tell the puppeteer
Just know it came from above n God is framed
And the frame you had of Him above the fire place
Is in the fire
Ultimately
What your deceiver wants
Uncover the other half of your brain n heart
It’s there
Just have to Die every day to live to see
Too much for you?
Don’t want to do that?
Ok, keep dieing by living
I only truly live when I die
Are you still covering one eye?
