New Book: Obama's War by Bob Woodward

Journalist Bob Woodward dissects and analyzes the war in Afghanistan and the Obama Administration's approach. From reviews I've read, Woodward is harsh on Obama, depicting the President as a cold, calculating overseer of a somewhat chaotic policy process and explains how Obama came to the decision to use the McChrystal strategy of ending the war.

I take everything with a grain of salt. Though, I agree that President Obama's thought process is very business oriented, I also believe he has a lot on his plate, including the most divided Congress since the Civil War. The War is just a mess that no one can really clean up. Either way, I'm sure it's a worthy read!

Politically Relevant Pop Culture on 90210

Courtesy of Hollywoodlife.com

This episode the CWs 90210 was juicy for all sorts of reasons, but mainly because we got a feel of Teddy's deep-rooted  insecurities about his own sexuality. His outburst of calling his future love interest (that's my prediction) a "faggot" aligns itself with the recent media coverage of homophobic bullying. Hip, hip, hooray to 90210 producers for trying to make the show socially relevant for their teen viewers.

As if that wasn't enough, they also did white America (and, most likely, other minority groups) a favor by very subtly explaining the idea of the "light-skinned" African-American. Tristan Wilds and Evan Ross are not the same kind of "black," and I think the way they introduced Ross' characters race exes out the idea the infamous saying that "all black people look the same." Great episode!

Soul Mates

As if the heavens parted slightly to share the last slice of innocent magnificence, sunlight shined on two children playing in a meadow. Their shrieks of laughter were angelic and echoed in the hills timelessly as they rolled on the grass, enjoying being in the company of each other. It was an experience that could only fully be enjoyed by hearts still pure— hearts that had not been weighed down by the burden of experience or the suffering of the longevity of Time.

At the foot of a hill, the two children collapsed into each other as friction brought them to the end of a rolling adventure. Snuggled together like a yin-yang in a bed of flowers, battling breathlessness from sporadic fits of giggles and aerobic exhaustion; the little boy looked into the beautiful, wide-open eyes of his playmate as she returned the favor to his observantly brilliant brown eyes. The boy laid his hand over where her heart rested in her body and was fascinated that he could feel the beat, like the conductor and composer to the song that made her breathe easy and freely:

“I can feel your heart dance.”

The little girl smiled at him for just a second and then quickly rose for an occasion, challenging him to a tag match, teasing that he could never touch her heart again while knowing, in Time, he very well could. She sprinted off into the expanse of the meadow and he received her challenge with the greatest excitement... knowing, even at an early age, that he would love nothing more than to touch her heart again.

He watched her fade away and he felt the rush to recapture the excitement with every second that passed him [bye], as he braced himself for the sprint of a lifetime.

See,
there,
THAT
was how he knew she was special:
She was the only girl who knew how to play
race,
chase,
and tag
with him--all before recess was marked over by the ringing of the Belle.

Nirvana, Heaven and 1987

Not since the Great Inception
and the human perception of Time,
or not unlike the invention
of the convention of rhyme,
did magic seem real,
and nature feel balanced
as the day that the Cosmos
proposed the Heavens a challenge.
It was a calm night in autumn,
short after
the close of November,
a phenomenon occurred;
something
amazing,
spectacular...
forever remembered.
A cupid-like centaur
in a star-composed palace
lay content with his bow
and sipped drink from his chalice..
Appeased by his merriment,
He shot through the heavens
seven arrows ablaze;
a sight so majestic
that perfection was grazed
and contentment was struck
as the stars looked amazed
and learned of their luck.
God smiled down,
and saw it was good,
and smiled in the way
only A Great Spectator could.
This smile bore a light
and made a human reflection
for this joyous,
miraculous
cosmic connection.
All love in the tropics,
on the brink of conception
of winter's progression...
And right that very second:
Happiness
and
Beauty,
took a wonderful,
spiritual,
and Worldly perspective...
Hence,
Nirvana
met Heaven
on December
2nd,
1987...

The Best Friend Syndrome

A L W A Y S there for her,
he forever cared for her
through many a-drunk nights.
He'd seen too many cat fights
over OTHER guys
deemed more "likable"
because
HE wasn't considered excitable
enough for her.
She preferred
to be J U S T friends.
BEST friends.
With him
and this girl Kim...
and this other girl Stacy...
He'd get S P A C E Y
whenever she spoke
about jesters who joked
and were
TOO foolish
to take her seriously
while SHE
and HE
would E E R I L Y
do something simultaneously
that snapped them back to reality...
momentarily.
It was the BEST FRIEND SYNDROME
and he was love sick
and home alone
with his only remedy.
He'd do anything
for the longevity
of their conversation.
Her lips moved so heavenly
about her conflicted situations.
And he was DYING with anticipation
for HIS
"seven minutes in heaven" kiss
on her couch.
Still,
his ego hurt so bad
it made him wanna scream, "OUCH!"
Get drunk
off several stouts
and rock out
to shout out:
"I don't know what I'd do without you"
because IT was THERE
especially when she
FLIPPED her hair
but It would be GONE in the morning.
Feverishly,
He'll be forever WANTING
something MORE.

The New "Goldielocks" Planet

The new planet is NOT TOO HOT, NOT TOO COLD, but JUSTTTT RIGHT for holding liquid water. After 11 years of observing a star, "a dim red-dwarf star in the constellation Libra that is just visible in amateur telescopes" (Boston Globe), astronomers from the Carnegie Institution of Washington discovers 6 circling planets. Of these 6, the "Goldielocks" Planet is the one that could possibly sustain LIFE AS WE KNOW IT.

The Boston Globe states:

"Gliese 581g, as it is named, is a super-Earth with three or four times Earth’s mass, probably 1.2 to 1.5 times Earth’s diameter, and gravity that would be strong enough to exhaust you after a few steps but not strong enough to crush you to a puddle. There’s no way to tell, however, whether Gliese 581g actually has water or an atmosphere that might be way too thick or thin, or even a solid surface. Yet.
We do know some things. The planet orbits the dim star so closely that one side must be gravitationally locked to face the star in permanent day, while the other side faces away in permanent night. At any given location on the day side, a big, orange sun looms at the same spot in the sky motionless, changeless, forever, going on 4 billion years now. Depending on how thick the atmosphere (if any) may be and how well it transports heat, the temperature difference between the day and night sides could be mild or extreme."
Only 20 light years away, this recent discovery gives hope of finding MORE potentially habitable planets. Perhaps George Lucas' fantasy of the intergalactic world is more true than we could have ever imagined.
