What If Life Was Random?

The only thing that makes me believe that life isn't random is random synchronicity. My faith in anything (God, parents, friends, love...) is confirmed by patterns. I connect dots. I see continued success when I move in a certain direction and that makes me BELIEVE that what I am doing is right. Is it possible that synchronicity and coincidence are one in the same? Is it coincidence that I was born in the United States and someone was born in Indonesia? Either it was foreseen that we would happen to live or we live to foresee what happens. What makes you believe that life isn't random?

True Blood: I Got A Right To Sing The Blues

Popular Culture has an obsession with vampires these days and it's scary. TRUE BLOOD is the new black and black is definitely in. I can't even lie, the show is amazing but this weeks episode, I Got A Right to Sing the Blues, portrayed the show's minority characters in a quite disturbing light. As a good friend of mine said to me while we were watching: "This is what all of America is watching right now". (SPOILER WARNING) Tara, who is not a vampire, bites someone in the neck and breaks through the skin after a questionable sexual abduction. I happened to be watching the episode with some spanish boyfriends and they were offended to see that the only hispanic character on the show was a homosexual, pursuing an African-American character. Later, we watched ENTOURAGE and the only African-American character on the show was the maid.

The television line up made me think about the correlation between classism and premium cable. It might be a stretch to connect the dots but I'd like to make the argument that premium channels have a unique  political battle that has already been fought over basic cable but to a lesser degree. In my experience, minority characters on channels like Showtime and HBO are made to be wildly exotic, if present at all...a splash of color to a very traditional setting. Am I being sensitive? If you watched the show this week, feel free to comment.

Have you ever gotten sand in your eye? Well, you should. Not actual sand, but UK artist Jamie Wardley's Sand in Your Eye collection. This artist spends his time traveling all over the world making sculptures out of sand and ice!

ADD SUV

My friend Rich posted this video on my facebook wall the other day and I think the sound is so fresh. Pharrell is such a sick beat maker and Uffie is an original..."When you don't like what you see...Hiding's easy in an SUV." True, haha. Check out the video.

Look At The Cloud Over China

Courtesy of inhabitat.com

Excerpt from inhabitat.com:

"Floating" above the city of Xiamen, China like a cloud, this lofty museum takes art and culture to new heights. The brainchild of MAD Architects, the structure's organic, molten metal shape is mirrored, reflecting the beauty of the surrounding environment right onto its walls. The museum will make good use of the city's sunny climate by placing solar panels on its roof, and because it rests upon 5 relatively slender "legs," residents of the city still have space to enjoy the natural landscape of the park-like site.

My Constant

Amidst the flashing beams of light,
I travel
back and forth
in Life.
Relative to where I am,
My echo shouts:
"my Constant!"
Mirror me
you know
to hold my shape.
You've carved and scraped,
with love and hate,
what neither Time nor state
could initiate.
You facilitate
what man
and sand
and Saturn's plan
had always known would consummate
when enlightenment
struck primal apes.
Yes,
You truly are:
my Constant.

Stay right there.
Don't change,
Don't move.
I've seen all hell...
I'll see the moon.
Far beyond
you're my looming star
that loves to rest;
so never stress...
YOU ARE MY BEST.
I'll wake-up call you in autotune,
and only you
will know my voice.
So,
by NO choice
are you
my Constant.
If I run, you know
it's all for fun.
I'll win the race.
I'll jump the gun.
and track our chase
to outer space.
They think I'm deep
or, rather, strange.
Well,
think of them
about the same,
so, truly here
now who's to blame?
They see I'm not from any one set place
and they're barely here,
merely tears
speeding down
with quickened pace,
to an empty,
dark and dismal space.
But you...
You're so matter of fact,
my Constant

House Passes $59 Billion Emergency Spending Bill

Courtesy of CNN

On July 27th, 2010 the House passed the emergency spending bill.
CNN reported:

"Specifically, the bill includes almost $33 billion for Afghanistan, along with over $5 billion for the Federal Emergency Management Agency, almost $3 billion for Haiti relief programs and $68 million for the oil disaster response in the Gulf of Mexico."

Liberals in the House fought against the bill in defense of the rising number of teacher layoffs across the nation. I think the larger issue arises when we consider how much money the country has already spent on the war. The $33 billion towards situating more troops in Afghanistan only prolongs the war.

This is my new favorite song. Mike Posner has captured something real that everyone can relate to no matter how fly you are: unrequited love (sigh). Enjoy the video.

Clever Investor Turns $45 into $200 Million

courtesy of BBC News

It's not everyday that you go to a yard sale and find something worthwhile. Painter, investor and collector Rick Norsigian did in 2000 when he bought photography icon Ansel Adams "lost" negatives.

It was no easy feat. He's spent years working with his lawyer to prove the origin of the negatives and expert art buyers have determined that Norsigian has, indeed, stumbled upon on a pop culture artifact. He purchased 65 negatives for $45 dollars and it turns out the collection is worth $200 million!

How I Got Over by Sundae

The Runaways

RACHEL STEWART and DAKOTA FANNING are going to be in a movie together...I won't say a word until I see it...But check out the trailer!

Pretty Little Liars...

Wouldn't it be crazy if the "Pretty Little" clique at every high school was actually gossiping about something scary instead of airy? This show is a HIT, lol! It's like Desperate Housewives meets Gossip Girl on the corner of Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. This doesn't surprise me, seeing as the show is on ABC Family...And it makes sense that ABC would take one of their most popular shows for a female demographic and fuse it together with a popular teen show from a competing network.

The idea of never knowing the truth and getting caught in dirty secrets is timeless and ageless and I really think the whole point of the psycho-stalker ghost is to illustrate how each character is extremely paranoid about keeping up false appearances. Dare I say, this dead friend of theirs...Allison...is merely a figment of their imagination to confront the larger issues of their social life. Who knows, though? PRETTY LITTLE LIARS is definitely a must see!

Where Are You?

The sheets ruffled
as two legs shuffled

at the bottom of the bed.
She turned her face
to that middle place
where one would likely find a head.
Dead tired,
she asked,
"Where are you?"
as she rose to toast some bread.
She lit a half-smoked cigarette
that was on the window's chipping ledge.
She breathed the air of mystery
with sun-highlighted dreads.
The toaster popped
and the sound had knocked
the silence
that was shed.
She wondered
what the chances were
she'd find someone again...

Moving to the Miami Heat

LeBron "King" James has a lot of angry subjects due to his latest decision to move to the Miami Heat. The Media frenzy was UNBELIEVABLE for his announcement and we really witnessed history in the making. Personally, this concept of BIG BALLERS being FREE AGENTS...to win championship rings is bringing a sense of autonomy to the game that we really haven't seen before. The trilogy is going to be absurd (LeBron,Chris Bosh, and Dwane Wayde)...and I must say LeBron's business savy approach has a very Masonic undertone. Money is the motive and we're seeing free enterprise working at it's best. I mean, Florida doesn't even have a state income tax...so, yeah.

Word of the Day: PLUTONOMY

I was watching the Michael Moore's documentary, CAPITALISM: A LOVE STORY, with my dad for the third time and I realized...the word PLUTONOMY definitely needs to be in everyone's vocabulary.

PLUTONOMY (n.) refers to a society where the majority of the wealth is controlled by an ever-shrinking minority; as such, the economic growth of that society becomes dependent on the fortunes of that same wealthy minority.

Since economics and government are intrinsically intertwined, I think it's time to stop using the word DEMOCRACY and replace it with PLUTONOMY.

I Love You

Love
is like a language
only you and I can speak.
We're on another level;
out of hand,
beyond their reach.
I swear you give me shivers
how you seize me when you breathe.
I lose my cool in slivers...
You make the air around me freeze.
You elevate my mood
above the point of highest peaks.
You're the river to my ocean;
YES,
to me,
our love is just THAT deep.
Your eyes are like a potion
and I dare to take them in.
You look at me
and there's this energy
surging through me,
and I feel it on my skin.
Between telepathy
and chemistry,
we're breaking barriers,
bending matters.
You know me
and I get you.
You understand
how much

I love you.

Never Forget You...

Ahhh! This song is my ish and I love the video even more. The Noisettes have a very authentic sound and I think they may do it a little better than Janelle Monae...yeah, I said it... o_o So check it out...Never Forget You...

PIZZACONE!

So, a new restaurant just opened in Manhattan. It's called PIZZACONE. Yup, the picture says it all. You get to have your pizza in a cone! Now, I sound excited about this but really, I'm skeptical. I'll definitely have to go check it out next week and I'll get back to you what the deal is. I do want to point out, however, that fast food is evolving just as rapidly as technology. I mean...food is more about asthetics than anything else, just like everything else these days. Interesting.

Appreciating Art: Calma

Stephan Doistchinoff aka Calma is a Brazilian painter, muralist and performance art choreographer. He's internationally known for his art and he's pretty ILL.  Recently, he's dropped new art and had another solo show for his line, CRAS (a latin term that means 'tomorrow'). In his recent interview with Juxtapoz magazine he explained the inspiration for his new line and what emotions he was trying to bring to his audience. Here's an excerpt from the magazine article:

"Some of the pieces for the show create a dialogue with this idea of urgency. Emphasizing to not leave the important things for tomorrow; do what you believe in now. Death is right behind you so open your eyes, live life fully, with a heart light as a feather…life is moving fast."
The second theme for his new line is called NOVO ASCETICISMO (which translates to new asceticism). The idea behind this theme is focuses is inspired by his belief in the "acceptance of sacrifice the modern man must go through in order to keep on a right path." In other words, the influence of media...big business...government...are all things that the modern man must abstain from in order to remain righteous. DOPE CONCEPT. Check out some of the pics...

High-Flying Airships for Freight

UK government chief scientific adviser Professor Sir David King
is recycling an idea from the past to reduce the traces of carbon in our means for transporting cargo. THE AIRSHIP!!!!
They aren't made yet but certainly being worked upon as a concept. This would be a huge achievement for green activists everywhere. Check out the pictures below!!

The Hard Times of RJ Berger...

It's official...MTV's new series The Hard Times of RJ Berger is a smash hit! I think it's going to be the WONDER YEARS of our generation if the writers can keep their mojo going. Check out the pilot episode...courtesy of MTV.com. ENJOY!

OMEGA REBOOT!

So, after finishing this one I decided to name the whole project of pieces OMEGA REBOOT! Now that I have a cohesive theme...I'm going in! "CHANGE IS THE ORIGINAL CONSTANT"

Hello, Good Morning...

Okay, so I tweeted earlier yesterday that I secretly wish I was part of Rick Ross' posse so I could pop bottles all night and laugh while he raps about the whole thing go down. This song just makes me want to do the "Diddy Dance". I thought it was fitting...considering it is definitely morning time right now...

The Picture of Perfect

Perfection
I know I've seen you before.
I do,
because I remember taking a picture with you.
You had bought me something sweet
in a dream
with lots of green
somewhere.
But then I lost it.
I lost the damn picture!
I went frantic,
writing about you
and me
and this picture.
I was M A D.
Throwing words
and living verbs
every
single
night...
so that I might remember you.
It was like...
the more I remembered of you
the more I could never be sure
that I had the image EXACTLY right.
Like, no...
that's not right...
questioning my sight;
  I distinctly remember your face
capturing the essence of a different light...
in a dream, maybe.
Anyway,
you get it.
You know what I mean
and me knowing that you know me
is exactly what I need.
Coming close to proving that I know you
does wonders for my self-esteem.
I've seen
so many pictures
of imitations
of you..
EXAGGERATIONS of you...
And I'm such a fool.
I could have saved you!
Now, I rephrase to one day reface you.
Like sweet music,
you're the only thing
I'll ever chase to.
But first,
I have to see you.

Tiger's Wild Divorce Settlement

So, I read at Forbes.com that Tiger Woods' divorce settlement couldn't be $750 million because he doesn't even have that much money! Supposedly, his net worth is only $600 million. When I heard the aforementioned rumor I knew there was something ABSOLUTELY OUTLANDISH about it, but I was just waiting it out to hear the official word. After all, Tiger had a prenuptial agreement with Elin, so he's certainly not going to just hand over his money. Forbes did say that she will most likely get more that what was agreed upon in the prenup, though.

Do You Know About Red Mass?

I remember learning in high school (actually middle school) that one of the reasons why people were so apprehensive and uptight about President John F. Kennedy being in office was religion. People were genuinely afraid that the Pope would eventually usurp the power from the government and that the Catholic Church would take on world domination. It goes without saying that separation of church and state has always been a major topic...

Well, why is there something called RED MASS, then, if that is the case? Red Mass is an annual Church ceremony that all political and governmental officials attend (a lot of times even the President of the United States) at the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle in Washington D. C. Every year they all come together and request guidance from the Holy Spirit and take the opportunity for reflection on what Catholics believe is the God-given power and responsibility of all in the legal profession. I think it's an interesting thing. One side of me says...YES, for ethics and a sense of morality in politics. The other side of me says...but wait...why is it a CATHOLIC Mass? Why is it a PENTECOSTAL Mass when Catholics don't believe in speaking in tongues? Isn't this a violation of separation of church and state?
